Equality of outcome, equality of situation, or equality of outcomes is a political idea which is central to some political ideologies and is used in some political discourse, usually in contrast to the time period equality of alternative. It describes a state in which all individuals have roughly the same material wealth and earnings, or by which the final financial situations of everyone’s lives are alike. According to meritocratic theories, goods, particularly wealth and social status, must be distributed to match particular person advantage, which is usually understood as some mixture of talent and hard work.
