It seems that everyone toys occasionally with the idea of being their own boss. There are certain allures to this idea.
Setting Your own Hours
Working on the things that interest you.
Work at Home
No Rush Hour Traffic
Making the Wage you Deserve
Control of your life, when you take vacation, what hours you work
Not being chewed out by the boss.
But there are also many aspects that keep people from realizing their dream of their own business.
What Idea for their business
Start up capital
Education
Finding clients
Legal issues, contracts
Taking that first step
While the appeal is certainly great to have a home business, how do people get past the detractors?
The important thing is to have a solid, well thought out plan.
Step 1: Establish and write down why you want to be in business for yourself. Do you want more time for your family, greater income, more time to play golf?
Step 2: Finding that great business idea. Take a look at your hobbies and interests. Is there something you are currently doing that can be turned into a work from home business? Is there an area that you have always been interested in, but never pursued?. This part takes awhile. Make a list of all you assets and skills. You will be very surprised at all of your accomplishments and talents.
Step 3: Education. Once you have your business idea, is there areas that you need education on? Do you need education on finding clients, business plans, contracts, etc?
Step 4: Everyone has a different start up budget. It is definitely more cost effective to start a work at home business as opposed to the traditional brick and mortar. Regardless, examine what amount you have available, be realistic when you structure your budget and stick with it. All things are possible regardless of how small.
Step 5: This could be the hardest step of all. Taking that first step. Making the commitment and taking the first step can be scary. But you are prepared. Grab the courage and just take the first step. There will be lots of time for refining and perfecting.
